Werth missing as Wednesday workout begins (updated)

VIERA, Fla. - The Nationals moved their preseason drills from the minor league complex to Space Coast Stadium on Wednesday, but outfielder Jayson Werth was missing when the workout began. Instead, Werth was receiving treatment on his lower back. Werth missed Tuesday's workout with back spasms, according to manager Davey Johnson. While the rest of his teammates dressed in red jerseys and gray pants, Werth lingered in the clubhouse in shorts and a t-shirt. Approached by reporters for an update on his condition, Werth said, "I don't care." Update: Werth has joined the Nationals on the field, but will not work out today. Update: Shortly after noon, Werth jogged out to shallow right-center, where he played catch for about 10 minutes with ian Desmond, looking like he was throwing free and easy. He then retreated to center field to shag fly balls. On one deep fly toward the batter's eye, Werth stopped short of the wall, bent over and tried to play the carom without any apparent discomfort.
