Worse than expected for Werth, who reportedly has two fractures in left wrist

It appears Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth will be out for a couple of months after a CT scan showed two fractures in his left wrist, according to reports. Werth's wrist was struck by a fastball back on May 15 during a second inning at-bat in San Diego. X-rays taken that night proved negative and an MRI a few days later revealed no ligament damage leaving Werth feeling positive.

"I'm relieved," Werth said on May 19. "I wish it felt better. I'm optimistic, but I don't feel like I'm out of the woods yet.

"It was bad. About as bad as it could be without being broke."

Unfortunately for Werth, today's further tests proved otherwise.

Werth has undergone three previous surgeries on his left wrist after breaking it once when hit by a pitch in spring training in 2005 with the Dodgers and again while making a diving catch in 2012 with the Nats. Since Werth was sent to the 15-day disabled list, Nationals manager Matt Williams has used Michael A. Taylor, Tyler Moore and Clint Robinson as replacements in left field.
