Wrapping up the Nats' 3-2 win over Miami

VIERA, Fla. - For the record, I'm still not used to typing the "Miami" Marlins. It's still weird to me. That is all. As reporters were down in the clubhouse postgame, we overheard a quote from Ian Desmond talking with Johnny Holliday and Ray Knight on MASN's "Nats Xtra." Desmond was discussing his first-pitch home run hit off Marlins righty Josh Johnson leading off the bottom of the first inning tonight. The homer cut through a breeze and banged off a light pole over the left-center field wall. "I'm up there ready to party," Desmond said. I like that mentality. So does manager Davey Johnson. "I want them to express their talent and be aggressive," Johnson said, speaking of Desmond and Danny Espinosa. "And Desi's doing that. I don't want him going up there and trying to work for a walk. I want him to go and hit a double. If you're trying to just center on the ball and hit it hard on a strike down the middle, you're thinking you're going to hit a double and you end up hitting one ... out." Desmond went 2-for-4 overall tonight, raising his average to .310 this spring. Xavier Nady added two more hits tonight, making him 4-for-10 in three games with the Nationals. Nady, playing right field tonight in his tour of the Nats' corner positions, also added his first RBI as a National. Henry Rodriguez delivered yet another scoreless inning of work, his 10th of spring. The hard-throwing righty posted two more strikeouts Finally, the award for best name of spring training has to be given to a guy coming over from the Nats' minor league camp for tonight's game: Angelberth Montilla. That's just fantastic stuff. Mr. Montilla went 0-for-1 tonight.
