Zimmerman serving as DH in first Grapefruit League game

VIERA, Fla. - Ryan Zimmerman will make his first start of the Grapefruit League campaign this afternoon, serving as the designated hitter for the Nationals against the Cardinals in a 1:05 p.m. game that will be broadcast on MASN.

zimmerman-close-swing-back-white-sidebar.jpgZimmerman has spent the bulk of spring training managing a case of plantar fasciitis in his left foot, and the Nationals have taken a cautious approach while monitoring and treating the nagging injury.

Zimmerman said he could still get the 45-50 at-bats he needed to prepare for the regular season, and that process begins today.

Save for Zimmerman being the DH and Clint Robinson replacing him at first base, the lineup is full of regulars manning the positons they will play in the regular season.

Right-hander Max Scherzer gets the start for the Nationals, his third of the spring. He'll be opposed by righty Michael Wacha.
