27-pitch first inning for Jimenez (updated)

Ubaldo Jimenez's first inning today after coming off the disabled list included two more walks and a run. Jimenez issued a leadoff walk to Matt Carpenter on his eighth pitch, struck out Kolten Wong and walked Matt Holliday. His 62 walks lead the American League despite his stay on the DL. Matt Adams flied out, but Jhonny Peralda lined a double to left field on Jimenez's 27th pitch of the inning. jimenez-pitching-white-sidebar (1).pngCarpenter scored, but Holliday was out at the plate - Delmon Young to Jonathan Schoop to Caleb Joseph. Score it 7-4-2. The Orioles have 27 outfield assists, including three from Young, whose most recent before today occurred on April 13 against the Blue Jays. The Cardinals challenged the call, but it was confirmed after a delay of 1 minute, 39 seconds. A short outing by Jimenez today likely would bring left-hander T.J. McFarland out of the bullpen. Nick Markakis walked and Manny Machado reached on a bunt single against Cardinals starter John Lackey in the bottom of the first inning, but Adam Jones lined into a double play and Nelson Cruz popped up. The Orioles are 46-10 when scoring first, giving them the best winning percentage (.821) in the majors. Update: So much for that stat. Jon Jay lined an 89 mph fastball onto the flag court in right field with two outs in the second inning to give St. Louis a 2-0 lead. Jimenez has allowed 12 home runs in 19 starts.
