A few notes on Orioles' 2014 schedule

The Orioles will open the 2014 season at home against the Boston Red Sox on March 31 after starting out in St. Petersburg, Fla., against the Tampa Bay Rays for three of the past four years. The three-game series against the Red Sox will continue from April 2-3 after an off-day. The Orioles will release their schedule later in the year, complete with dates and times. In the meantime, I'll pass along a few other details that I've heard along the way. The Orioles' first road series next season is April 4-6 in Detroit. As for the interleague portion of their schedule, the Orioles will host the Washington Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds. They will play the Nationals, Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs on the road. The Orioles' first game at Wrigley Field was played June 24, 2008, when they defeated the Cubs 7-5. George Sherrill struck out Ronny Cedeno, Kosuke Fukudome and Henry Blanco to escape a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the ninth and record his 26th save. Brian Roberts had three hits, reaching 1,000 for his career. The Orioles took two of three games in that series, with Radhames Liz getting the win in the finale. Yes, it was a while ago.
