A few pregame notes (Sox lineup change)

Red Sox manager Terry Francona told the Boston media that everyone in his bullpen should be available except Franklin Morales. I guess closer Jonathan Papelbon has something left in the tank after working 2 1/3 innings last night in Game 2. Orioles second baseman Ryan Adams remains scheduled to undergo surgery on Oct. 4 for a sports hernia. Nolan Reimold has five homers and 15 RBIs in 20 games this month. He isn't in the lineup tonight. Reimold is trying to convince Buck Showalter that he can be the regular left fielder next season, or at least have some sort of role on this team that doesn't include riding the shuttle to Triple-A Norfolk. "I've said it many times that I'm happy that I leaned on the people who had seen him healthy," Showalter said. "Nolan had a lot of challenges last year. He'll be the first to tell you that some of them were self-inflicted. But in the matchups that we've used him in, he's done well. I think he's shown everybody that when he's healthy, what kind of contributions you can expect from him in the situations you put him in." Showalter was asked about Single-A Frederick infielder Jonathan Schoop and Double-A Bowie pitcher Tim Bascom, the organization's minor league Player and Pitcher of the Year. "I've heard good things about Bascom," Showalter said. "I've just seen him from afar. I know he's well thought of. I got to see Jonathan some. We're all excited about him. "The thing that caught my eye about Jonathan over in Frederick was he's a baseball player. This guy's alert, great energy, has court awareness. It's like the point guard on a fast break who can see the guys cutting on the side. He's aware of the game within the game, which caught me. I don't know about the statistics and all that stuff, but he did real well at a level that 19 year olds don't necessarily do well. "We're excited about both those guys. Well deserved, I know." The Orioles may send a few more players to the instructional league who are currently on the expanded roster. "They don't know that yet," Showalter said. "I'm going to approach them about it shortly. Let me break the news to them, all right? They'll have the option." Update: Jason Varitek has been scratched from the Red Sox's lineup because of a sore knee. Jarrod Saltalamacchia is behind the plate and batting eighth.
