A little pregame Showalter and Duchscherer

SARASOTA, Fla. - Manager Buck Showalter said there's "nothing definitive" regarding first baseman Derrek Lee, who's dealing with some soreness above his right wrist. "He feels a little better than he did yesterday," Showalter said. "We'll see how he is tomorrow. We don't plan on taking him to Fort Myers tomorrow. At the very earliest Monday, but it may be later than that. It's not a big deal for me right now." Luke Scott and Josh Bell will take ground balls at first base tomorrow morning, which has nothing to do with Lee's status. That was the plan all along. The Orioles want Scott concentrating more on left field, but they also want him getting a little work at first. Bench coach Willie Randolph, who also coaches the infielders, will work with both players. There are no immediate plans to put Nolan Reimold at first base. It could happen later, but Showalter wants Reimold to get lots of work in left field. Asked whether Jake Fox is viewed as a backup at first base, Showalter replied, "Jake is trying to make this club as a backup catcher right now. I've moved him around just to try to get him some at-bats, but his primary focus is trying to make this club as a catcher." Fox and Craig Tatum could both make the club. Showalter didn't dismiss that possibility. Justin Duchscherer said he continues to feel fine after throwing batting practice today. "I actually felt better this time than the last time I threw. I will know more tomorrow. Basically, I just have to see how it responds," he said. Duchscherer threw all of his pitches. "My command wasn't as good as I would like it to be, but physically I felt good and I think that's the only thing we were really concerned about today," he said. Duchscherer still doesn't know when he'll debut with the Orioles this spring. "I'm taking every day day-by-day," he said. "I can't get too far ahead of myself. I've been through this too many times to do that. I'm going to come in here, do what I've got to do today and go from there."
