A look back at some notes from the opener as we await Game 2

Checking in with more notes from Orioles opening day win a few hours before the second game of the season tonight at Camden Yards. * It was 20 years ago yesterday when Rick Sutcliffe pitched a five-hit shutout as the Orioles opened Camden Yards by winning by two runs, 2-0. On Friday, they won by two runs, 4-2 as the pitching staff allowed six hits. * Only 11 players from last year's opening day 25-man roster are on that roster right now. They are Robert Andino, Jake Arrieta, Kevin Gregg, J.J. Hardy, Jim Johnson, Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, Brian Matusz, Nolan Reimold, Mark Reynolds, Matt Wieters. Most Orioles opening day starts by position: C - Rick Dempsey, 10 1B - Eddie Murray, 10 2B - Rich Dauer, 8 SS - Cal Ripken, 14 3B - Brooks Robinson, 20 LF - Gary Roenicke, 6 CF - Paul Blair, 12 RF - Frank Robinson, Ken Singleton, Nick Markakis 6 DH - Ken Singleton, Harold Baines, Sam Horn 3 P - Jim Palmer, Mike Mussina 6 * The Orioles have now won five in a row and seven of their last eight meetings against the Twins. They went 6-2 versus Minnesota last year. * With Friday's win, the Orioles improved to 37-22 all-time on opening day. They are now 28-13 when opening day is in Baltimore and 13-4 when the game is at Camden Yards. The O's have opened at home in 27 of the last 32 seasons. Minnesota falls to 24-28 all-time in openers and has not won one since 2008. * Buck Showalter is now 14 wins away from becoming the 58th manager in major league history to reach 1,000 wins. Minnesota's Ron Gardenhire needs 34 victories to get to 900 wins. Finally, one of the more fun moments from the opener for me was near the end of the player introductions when a 6-year-old named Connor ran down the orange carpet as the team's 10th fan.
