A pair of Jacksons doing well in Nats minor league camp

Instead of The Jackson 5, how about a pair of Jacksons as we continue our minor league pitching previews?

We continue with an update on right-hander Jackson Tetreault, who pitched for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Nats and short-season Single-A Auburn. The 21-year-old went 2-2 with a 2.68 ERA in 12 games (six starts) in 2017, with 38 strikeouts and 17 walks over 40 1/3 innings.

"Tall, lanky kid, very repeatable delivery," said Nationals pitching coordinator Paul Menhart. "Has a good feel for his breaking ball - I'm going to call it a breaking ball right now. It's a hard breaking ball, a changeup and a low-to-mid 90s mph fastball. We are very excited about this, as well. We want to get him rocking and rolling in a full-season club hopefully."

Left-hander Jackson Stoeckinger, from Harredsburg, Ky., is also doing well. The 22-year-old went 2-0 with a 4.73 ERA in eight games (five starts) for the GCL Nats.

"Jackson is a really nice, clean arm left-handed pitcher that has shown us that he can spin it well," Menhart said. "Has probably a low three-quarter slot (that) plays a little deceptively and I think can be very effective against left-handers. I don't think it's going to be a big issue getting righties out, either. He's fairly athletic, too. He's another interesting pitcher."

Stoeckinger is another example of the 2017 Nats draft emphasis on building pitching again with nine of the first 10 picks being pitchers.

"The scouting department did an outstanding job giving us some quality arms to work with," Menhart said.
