Adam Jones provides update on shoulder (with Yankees lineup)

NEW YORK - Orioles center fielder Adam Jones is getting two more days off in an attempt to alleviate the discomfort in his right shoulder.

Jones wanted to play last night, but he wasn't in the lineup. He wants to play tonight, but again, manager Buck Showalter has inserted Gerardo Parra in center field and found a spot for Jones on the bench.

The Orioles are off Thursday and Jones figures to get back in the lineup for Friday night's series opener against the Royals at Camden Yards.

"It's a lot better than it was the other day," he said this afternoon. "Time heals all wounds, man."

Three straight days of rest should get him back in the center field and the third spot in the order.

"I hope so," he said.

Jones is batting .272/.313/.480 with 23 doubles, three triples, 25 home runs and 69 RBIs in 126 games. He leads the Orioles and is tied for third in the majors with 14 outfield assists.

Jones batted .281/.326/.490 with 15 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs, 43 RBIs, 16 walks and 47 strikeouts in 77 games in the first half. He's batting .258/.292/.465 with eight doubles, 11 home runs, 26 RBIs, eight walks and 42 strikeouts in 49 games since the All-Star break.
