Another one-run loss and another day lost for the Orioles

Can the Orioles get on a roll? Seems the answer in this 2013 season to that question is going to be no. Get a big win scoring late runs on Friday. Give up late runs to lose Saturday. The Orioles are last in the American League with a record of 16-28 in one-run decisions after Saturday's 4-3 loss, which followed Thursday's one-run loss, which followed Wednesday's and you get the point. Since July 4, the Orioles are 4-17 in one-run games. They have lost 12 of their last 14 one-run decisions. They are keeping company with some bad teams in the AL with that bad one-run record. .364 - Orioles (16-28) .383 - Houston (18-29) .396 - Chicago (21-32) .419 - Seattle (18-25) The Orioles took a 3-2 lead in the fourth yesterday, but couldn't add on. They got a leadoff double in the sixth and had two on and two out in the eighth, but they couldn't get the clutch hit and finished 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The O's are batting just .221 with RISP over the last 21 games. Here is another problem for the 2013 Orioles: They have a losing record against Toronto at 7-8. They are 3-6 in Toronto. As for the rest of the AL East, Boston is 9-7 vs. Toronto, New York is 13-3 and Tampa Bay is 10-6. That adds up to 32-16 for the rest of the division vs. the cellar-dwellar Blue Jays. The Orioles are now 3 1/2 games out of a playoff berth with just 14 games to play. Later today the O's take their latest shot at starting to get on that elusive run of wins that never seems to come when Miguel Gonzalez (9-7, 4.00 ERA) pitches against lefty Mark Buehrle (11-8, 4.18 ERA) at 1:07 p.m.
