Nationals top infield prospect Anthony Rendon returns to the lineup Sunday night for short-season Single-A Auburn's game at 6:05 p.m., as he continues his rehab assignment from a fractured left ankle. Rendon got Saturday off to rest.
Rendon will play third base for six innings today, according to a club source. Then on Monday, Rendon will be the designated hitter.
It has not been announced where Rendon will play when he completes his rehab with the Doubledays, whether he will get a few games with low Single-A Hagerstown or be returned to high Single-A Potomac. The Suns are home Aug. 3-6 and the P-Nats return home Aug. 10.
Rendon has gone 1-for-6 (.167) in two games for Auburn, with a homer, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts. He hit .364 in five GCL contests.
