NEW YORK - Once again, an Orioles starter pitched deep in a game tonight. It all starts with starting pitching. Jake Arrieta was superb, blanking the Yankees on five hits over a career-high eight innings. He didn't walk a batter and tied his career high with nine strikeouts. Arrieta also tied Jason Hammel for the longest outing by an Orioles starter this season. Hammel lasted eight innings on April 8. Robert Andino has three hits and a walk from the ninth spot in the order. He's now batting .342. Should he be leading off? The Orioles need three more outs to go seven games above .500 for the first time since July 19, 2005. They haven't won a series in the Bronx since Sept. 6-8, 2010. Matt Wieters is now 7-for-14 with three homers and five RBIs lifetime against Ivan Nova. Update: Arrieta threw 111 pitches, 76 for strikes. Jim Johnson replaced him and retired the side in order in the ninth. Orioles 5, Yankees 0. The Yankees never put a runner in scoring position. Orioles starters registered a 1.33 ERA in this series, with three runs, 16 hits and 18 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings. The rotation has posted a 1.65 ERA and nine quality starts in the last 10 games. Seriously, are we having fun yet?
