Austin Voth shares Player of the Week honors in AFL

Glendale Desert Dogs pitcher Austin Voth was named co-winner of Player of the Week honors in the Arizona Fall League for Week 5 of competition.

Voth shared the honor with Scottsdale shortstop and Yankees product Gleyber Torres.

Voth-Throws-Syracuse-Sidebar.jpgThe 24-year-old right-hander threw five scoreless innings in his only start last week, striking out three and scattering three hits.

Glendale pitching coach Sam Narron said Voth was focusing on refining his changeup early in AFL competition. Recently, he has just been more consistent with all of his offerings.

In six AFL starts, the Redmond, Wash., product is 2-2 with a 6.20 ERA. He has 20 strikeouts against eight walks in 24 2/3 innings pitched. Voth has won two starts in a row and has not allowed a run in 10 consecutive innings of work.

The Nationals' fifth-round (166th overall) 2013 draft choice out of the University of Washington. he is 23-23 with a 2.34 ERA over four professional seasons. He spent 2016 with Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 7-9 record and 3.15 ERA in 27 outings (25 starts).
