Ayala not expected to pitch in WBC

SARASOTA, Fla. - Reliever Luis Ayala apparently has informed pitching coach Rick Adair that he's not going to pitch for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. Manager Buck Showalter passed along the news to reporters following today's Orioles workout. Ayala already left the facility and Adair is in a meeting. I'll provide an update later. Also, third baseman Manny Machado and pitcher Zach Braddock missed today's workout because they were undergoing additional procedures as part of their physicals. A team official said it's nothing serious, and they are expected back in camp on Tuesday. Jonathan Schoop was supposed to play third base for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic, but those plans may have changed after Texas Rangers infield prospect Jurickson Profar informed the club that he will not participate. Profar would have played second base. Ryan Flaherty has been working out at second base, shortstop and third base in camp.
