Baseball America's top 10 Nationals prospects

Baseball America is out with its annual top 10 list of prospects for the Nationals and it is no surprise who is listed at No. 1. Here's the full list: 1. Bryce Harper, OF 2. Anthony Rendon, 3B 3. Brad Peacock, RHP 4. A.J. Cole, RHP 5. Brian Goodwin, OF 6. Alex Meyer, RHP 7. Matt Purke, LHP 8. Sammy Solis, LHP 9. Derek Norris, C 10. Steve Lombardozzi, 2B/SS Harper has torn up the Arizona Fall League, batting over .314. He has hit .462 with six homers and 21 RBIs in his last 10 games. Joining him in the AFL, is No. 9 prospect Derek Norris, who is hitting .339. Recent draft picks Rendon, Goodwin, Meyer, and Purke dominate the list. Purke has joined Norris and Harper in Arizona. Rendon, Meyer and Goodwin shined at instructional league workouts and games. With so many draft picks from 2011 on this list, it is no wonder Baseball America national writer Aaron Fitt called the Nationals selections this year "the best in baseball." Solis is now surging in the AFL, coming off a sterling performance Friday in a victory, with four innings of shutout ball, striking out nine hitters. Cole should move to Single-A Potomac after an impressive summer in Single-A Hagerstown. Peacock made a quick acceleration through two levels before landing in D.C. and doing quite well against major league hitters. He has a very good chance of making the team in spring training. Lombardozzi held his own against major league pitching and defended well during September in Washington. Infielders Chris Marrero and Tyler Moore (62 homers in past two seasons) as well as pitcher Robbie Ray did not make this list, but that could mean they are 10a, 10b and 10c. All have shown on the field why they are considered top prospects in an organization now beginning to overflow with talent. I will talk this week with Fitt, break down each of these selections, and get thoughts on those who made the list and which players are close to the top 10.
