Cashner expected to come off disabled list Wednesday

Andrew Cashner will make Wednesday night's start against the Nationals in D.C. following today's successful bullpen session.

"It went good, felt good, and I look forward to getting on the mound Wednesday," he said.

Manager Buck Showalter has been able to manipulate the rotation with off-days on Thursday and Monday.

Cashner is 2-8 with a 4.98 ERA and 1.687 WHIP in 13 starts over 72 1/3 innings. His last outing came against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre and he allowed three runs and nine hits over six innings in a 5-1 loss.

The back began to tighten up before the game, but Cashner tried to work through it.

"I think it's a combination of maybe the turf and I was having some spasms before the game," he said. "It just spasmed up and I couldn't really do much. Just locked my back up.

"Something to be aware of and will just keep working at it and keep loosening it."

David Hess will start Tuesday night's series opener against the Nationals unless he's needed today as an emergency reliever.

Chris Tillman is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment Wednesday with short-season Single-A Aberdeen.

Manager Buck Showalter said it hasn't been decided whether Chris Davis will return to the lineup on Tuesday. He added that Davis is "moving toward" it and is hopeful that it happens for the first game in D.C.

Showalter is relying on input from Davis, hitting coach Scott Coolbaugh and anyone else involved in the process.

Tim Beckham remains in line to come off the disabled list June 23.

Outfielder Dalton Hoiles, the son of former Orioles catcher Chris Hoiles, worked out for the Orioles yesterday and impressed Showalter.

Hoiles led Shippensburg University with a .362 average, .452 on-base percentage, 22 doubles, 10 home runs, 41 RBIs and 41 runs scored. His 22 doubles led the Atlantic Region and tied the single-season school record.
