Chance Sisco provides highlights during blowout loss at NY

Chance Sisco showed a smooth swing and a quick bat as he picked up his first two major league hits last night. That was easily the highlight for the Orioles in a 13-5 loss at Yankee Stadium. Easily.

Sisco pinch-hit in the seventh and lined a double down the right-field line. In the ninth he turned around a 95 mph fastball and homered to right. Scouts have always rated Sisco's ability to hit for average over his power. He hit a career-high seven homers this year in 97 games at Triple-A Norfolk after hitting six in 2015 and six in 2016. Some scouts see him growing into modest power and perhaps hitting 10-15 home runs if he played regularly in the big leagues. Sisco hit three homers this year in his last nine games at Norfolk. Then his first MLB homer came in his third big league at-bat.

That was a nice moment for the 22-year-old catcher, who got a great reception in the Orioles dugout. Yep, that was cool. Even on a night the Orioles got blown out.

The start of the game, though, was a disaster. Wade Miley allowed six runs in 1/3 of an inning. The Orioles trailed 6-0 after one inning and 9-1 after four.

O's pitchers have allowed 133 runs and 40 homers in going 6-10 this season against the Yankees. In going 1-6 at Yankee Stadium, they have been outscored 81-35 and have allowed 12 runs or more five times. They have had games at New York this year where they have lost 14-11 in 10 innings, 12-4, 16-3, 14-3 and Thursday night a 13-5 result was added to the list. The Orioles are 1-6 this season in their past seven games against New York.

The Orioles continue to serve up some very poorly located fastballs to Aaron Judge and he continues to bash them for homers. He went 3-for-4 last night with a pair of three-run homers. He is batting .472 (25-for-53) with 11 homers and 24 RBIs against Baltimore pitching this season. Call me crazy, but I'm in favor of him not getting fastballs down the middle in the game tonight.

More notes on the Orioles:

* They have been outscored 17-0 in the first innings of the past four games at New York.

* O's pitchers had allowed just 20 runs in the first six games of the road trip at Cleveland and Toronto.

* O's starters pitched 18 innings, allowing five runs in three games at Toronto. Then Miley allowed six runs in getting just one out last night.

* New York tied Cleveland for the MLB lead with its 16th game scoring 10 runs or more for the year. Five have come versus the Orioles.

* Trey Mancini hit his 24th homer on a fly ball over the right-field wall in the sixth. In the remaining 15 games, Mancini needs five homers to set an Orioles rookie record for homers. Cal Ripken Jr. hit 28 in 1982 and Eddie Murray hit 27 in 1977. Mancini is third on the list and keeping very good company.
