Chris Davis homers twice, records five RBIs as Orioles top Atlanta

Chris Davis did the heavy lifting early on. Later, his teammates joined in. After a slow start, Ubaldo Jimenez did his part as well. Davis homered in the first and second innings tonight and had five RBIs by the second inning as the Orioles beat Atlanta 7-3 at Camden Yards.

The Orioles have their third four-game winning streak of 2015 as they improve to 29-18 at home and 50-49 overall. During the win streak, O's pitchers have allowed just seven runs.

After the Braves took a 2-0 lead in the first on Freddie Freeeman's 13th homer, the Orioles struck right back. Manny Machado led off the first with a single and Jimmy Paredes walked. One out later, Davis hit a three-run shot. His 23rd homer made it 3-2 Orioles.

It's his sixth five-RBI game. This was Davis' 10th multi-homer game of his career and his third of this season. Over his last seven games, he has hit five homers with 12 RBIs.

The Orioles added an RBI single from Caleb Joseph in the fifth and an RBI double from Adam Jones in the sixth. They scored five runs or more for the third time in four games. They had done that just twice in the previous 18 games.

Meanwhile, on the mound, Jimenez got locked in after that shaky first inning, in which he faced eight batters and threw 25 pitches.

He went seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs, and didn't allow a hit after the first inning. After Jimenez walked the leadoff hitter in the second, he retired 18 of the last 20 hitters he faced to improve to 8-6 with an ERA of 3.73. He rebounded nicely not only from the first inning tonight, but also from allowing seven runs in each of his last two starts. In eight home starts, Jimenez is 6-1 with a 2.13 ERA.

Over the last five games, Orioles starters have pitched to an ERA of 1.56 over 34 2/3 innings, going seven innings or more four times.

The Orioles look for a sweep of this three-game series on Wednesday night when Chris Tillman (7-7, 4.71 ERA) pitches against right-hander Mike Foltynewicz (3-2, 5.27 ERA).
