There seems to be an unofficial theme at the Inaugural Orioles Cook-Off at the ESPN Zone Tuesday, so hopefully you're in the mood for Spanish tortillas, fish tacos, and chicken enchiladas.
Three of your favorite O's, ace Jeremy Guthrie, 2B Brian Roberts, and veteran CA Gregg Zaun will be trading their bats and gloves for recipes and oven mitts in the Orioles first-ever cook-off competition at the ESPN Zone in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
According to Rob Kasper of the Baltimore Sun, Guthrie plans to make the Spanish tortillas (a mixture of potatoes and eggs) that he learned to make in Spain while on his two-year Mormon mission; B-Rob will mimic his wife, Diana's fish tacos; and Gregg Zaun will be making his famous chicken enchiladas.
While the trio's claims to cooking expertise range from passable (Guthrie) to passionate (Zaun) - with Roberts somewhere in between - it should be a fun afternoon watching the three Orioles teammates try their hands in the kitchen. So if you're interested in taking in the competition before the O's face the Royals at the Yard later in the evening, swing by the ESPN Zone from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to see who will be "crowned Birdland's best chef!"
Fans will also get to ask players questions as they enjoy a lunch buffet featuring the food the players are preparing.
Tickets for this OriolesREACH event are $50 for adults and $30 for kids (12 and younger). Prices include the lunch buffet, an ESPN Zone game card, autographed giveaways, and a donation to the Maryland Food Bank.
