It seems that when Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin ever gets into trouble, it happens early.
The Orioles got to Corbin very early in Tuesday's series opener.
Hanser Alberto singled on the game's first pitch. Corbin then hit Trey Mancini with a pitch. Anthony Santander doubled to deep left field to score Alberto and the Orioles led 1-0.
One batter later, Jonathan Villar's line drive sacrifice fly to center field brought home Mancini to make it 2-0 Orioles.
The Nationals looked like they might quickly answer back in the bottom of the first against Birds starter Aaron Brooks. Trea Turner led off the inning with a single and stole second base. But Brooks struck out Adam Eaton, Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto in order to end the potential threat.
The next two frames, the Nats managed only a hustling bunt single with two outs in the second inning by Victor Robles.
Through three innings, the Orioles lead the Nationals 2-0.
Update: Corbin looked like Corbin after the first frame. He finished seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and nine strikeouts. The southpaw threw 104 pitches, 69 for strikes.
The Nats have managed only three hits off Brooks and reliever Richard Bleier.
After seven innings, the Orioles still lead the Nationals 2-0.
