Dan Duquette issues statement on Zach Britton

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette has been fielding calls this morning about left-hander Zach Britton's health, which led to the club issuing the following statement on his behalf: "We are currently monitoring Zach Britton. He has already reported to spring training and is scheduled to begin his throwing progression this Friday." Duquette's cousin, former Orioles executive Jim Duquette, tweeted this morning that Britton will be limited in spring training because of a sore shoulder. Britton went on the disabled list Aug. 5 with a left shoulder strain, one day after he allowed six runs (four earned) and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Kansas City Royals. Britton was making just his second start after a three-week demotion to Double-A Bowie. He made eight more starts after returning on Aug. 22. Britton will attempt to make the rotation this spring, but he could end up at Triple-A Norfolk. He wasn't going to report to camp with a job waiting for him, no matter his health.
