Davis breaks another Anderson record (O's lose 5-1)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Rays starter Alex Cobb won't get a shutout or a complete game. Chris Davis tripled with one out in the top of the ninth and scored on Adam Jones' opposite-field single, reducing Tampa Bay's lead to 5-1. It was a gift triple, but it counts. Left fielder David DeJesus appeared to lose the ball in the Tropicana Field roof and fell to the turf. Davis now has 93 extra-base hits, breaking Brady Anderson's club record of 92 set in 1996. Earlier on this trip, Davis hit his 51st home run at Fenway Park to pass Anderson for first place on the Orioles' single-season list. Cobb left the game to a rousing ovation. He struck out 12 batters in 8 1/3 innings. The Orioles hadn't scored in 19 consecutive innings before Jones' single, which gave the center fielder 106 RBIs this season. Update: Fernando Rodney recorded the last two outs, and the Orioles lost 5-1 to the Rays before 23,835 at Tropicana Field. The Orioles have dropped the first two games of this crucial series.
