Dylan Bundy set to stay on a six-day pitching schedule with the Baysox

BOWIE, Md. - Dylan Bundy will make his Double-A debut at Prince George's Stadium for the Bowie Baysox tonight, starting in game one of a doubleheader with Erie at 6:05 p.m. It will mark the third level the 19-year-old has pitched at this year, following his time with Single-A Delmarva and Single-A Frederick. They play seven-inning games in minor league doubleheaders so Bundy possibly could pitch a complete game as he will be working with a pitch count of around 100 tonight. Bundy's pitch breakdown at Frederick was 73 percent fastballs with 14 percent changeups and 13 percent curveballs. I am told to look for a similar breakdown in Bowie. The Orioles will not allow Bundy to throw cut fastballs at Double-A, continuing a policy the right-hander has followed all season. Bundy is scheduled to stay on a routine where he pitches every sixth day. That would allow him to make four starts for the Baysox before the regular season ends Sept. 3. They are scheduled for Aug. 20 at Richmond, Aug. 26 at home versus Harrisburg and Sept. 1 at Harrisburg. As always, that is subject to change. Bundy burst onto the scene at the beginning of this year at Delmarva and put together a stunning stretch of eight starts. Over 30 innings with the Shorebirds, he gave up just five hits with no earned runs and two walks to 40 strikeouts. In 11 starts for Frederick, beginning May 26, he went 6-3 with a 2.98 ERA. Over 54 1/3 innings, he gave up 48 hits with 17 walks and 63 strikeouts. In 19 starts between both clubs, Bundy is 7-3 with a 1.92 ERA. Over 84 1/3 innings he has allowed 53 hits with 19 walks, 103 strikeouts and a .182 average against. The Orioles' 2011 first-round pick has allowed two earned runs or less in 16 of 19 starts and one earned run or fewer in 14 of 19 outings. He has allowed a season-high four runs twice, including his last outing Wednesday, when he gave up four runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings for Frederick against Lynchburg. One stat worth following with Bundy is his success and/or struggles against left-handed hitters in the Eastern League. While he gave up just two hits over 42 at-bats against lefty batters with Delmarva, Carolina League left-handed batters hit .345 with an OPS of .976 against him compared to .203/.567 for right-handed hitters. Bundy wore uniform No. 7 with Delmarva and No. 17 in Frederick. He will wear jersey No. 6 here tonight for the Baysox. Kline's debut: The Orioles' 2012 second-round pick, University of Virginia pitcher Branden Kline, a Frederick native, is going to make his pro debut Thursday. He's reporting to short-season Single-A Aberdeen and will pitch that night for the IronBirds at Lowell. Kline is scheduled to throw three innings in his first minor league game.
