Early notes from Camden Yards

Not much in the way of news this afternoon at Camden Yards. The updates were also scarce.

Vance Worley will be in the bullpen Thursday night, which makes him available to back up Ubaldo Jimenez in the event of an abbreviated start.

Worley could get another start, but he's shifting back into a relief role.

One reason why the Orioles went with 13 pitchers was to "buy another day or two of rest for Vance," said manager Buck Showalter.

"He's shown that he's capable of doing both."

Showalter, pitching coach Dave Wallace and bullpen coach Dom Chiti mapped out the rotation for next month, but it's "very much subject to change," Showalter said.

The weather could impact it. So, too, could a trade.

The Orioles are starting Kevin Gausman, Yovani Gallardo and Chris Tillman in the three-game series against the Blue Jays that begins Friday night at Rogers Centre.

The Jays are starting Marco Estrada, J.A. Happ and Aaron Sanchez. The Orioles thought they'd get knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, but he's not pitching in the series.

Jimenez flew out to Minnesota today in preparation for Thursday night's start. Gausman will fly to Toronto Friday morning, avoiding the one-day trip to Minnesota.

Showalter sounded confident that outfielder Julio Borbon, designated for assignment this week, would remain in the organization. He didn't have an update on outfielder Henry Urrutia, who's working out in Sarasota.

Showalter said the impact of trade deadline rumors in the clubhouse is "blown out of proportion," adding that players know the percentage of reports that prove inaccurate.

After talking to executive vice president Dan Duquette, Showalter said he didn't believe anything was imminent.
