Eveland deserves save tonight (Jones breaks tie, O's win in 15th)

The Orioles can't get enough of extra innings. They'll do 13, they'll do 17, they'll pretty much go all night. The bullpen is being stretched again, but massive amounts of credit go to left-hander Dana Eveland, who turned in three scoreless innings after replacing Darren O'Day. Eveland allowed one hit and struck out two. He retired the last seven batters that he faced. In his two previous outings, Eveland allowed four runs and seven hits, walked eight batters and hit four in 7 2/3 innings. Tonight, he kept the game tied and prevented manager Buck Showalter from making another trip to the mound. He may have saved the bullpen from being depleted, depending on what happens the rest of the way. Kevin Gregg has replaced Eveland in the bottom of the 13th. He hasn't surrendered a run in his last five outings, including two scoreless innings in the 17-inning marathon in Boston. This is Gregg's second appearance since the Fenway fiasco. Update: As I mentioned earlier today, the Orioles were 10-1 when Adam Jones hit a home run. He just hit a home run in the 15th inning. Cha-ching! Orioles 4, Kansas City 3. Jones was 0-for-6 with three strikeouts before that at-bat. Kevin Gregg contributed two scoreless innings. Jim Johnson will try to pick up his 21st consecutive save dating back to last August. The Orioles have won their last four extra innings games (all on the road) after losing their first two (both at home.) They're three outs away from extending that streak. Update II: Johnson stranded the tying run, and the Orioles won, 4-3, in 15 innings. Nine of Jones' 12 home runs have tied the game or given the Orioles the lead. Couldn't help but notice the nice play Ryan Flaherty made at third base with one out, fielding a tough hop while part of a shattered bat was flying in his direction. Pretty smooth.
