Extras from Game 1 and an early lead in Game 2 (O's lose 7-6)

CHICAGO - The Orioles decided tonight in Game 2 that they weren't going to spot the White Sox an early lead.

Jonathan Villar drove in the final run of Game 1 with a tiebreaking sacrifice fly and scored the initial run in the nightcap after a leadoff single and stolen base in the first inning.

Dwight Smith Jr., also starting both ends of the doubleheader, lined an RBI single into left field for a 1-0 lead against Iván Nova.

Nova faced the Orioles in his last start and allowed nine runs and 11 hits in four innings. Smith, Renato Núñez, Chris Davis and Joey Rickard homered off him.

Núñez is the designated hitter in Game 2 after playing first base in the opener and committing one of the club's three errors.

Davis is batting fifth tonight for the first time this season. He's been in the seventh slot in 14 games and the sixth in four.

Nova got a called third strike on Davis to end the first inning and strand Smith, who had a game-tying double in the seventh inning in the opener before Villar's sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Villar is 12-for-37 (.324) in his last 10 games, including the Game 2 single. Hanser Alberto extended his hitting streak to eight games, but he's out of the lineup tonight.

Alberto is 13-for-34 (.382) during the steak.

Trey Mancini's hitting streak ended at nine games and he's sitting out Game 2. The right index finger has some lingering soreness and manager Brandon Hyde wants to give it more recovery time tonight and with Thursday's off-day.

The Orioles were 0-20 when trailing after the sixth inning before rallying past the White Sox.

The pitching staff didn't allow a home run for only the fifth time in 31 games.

Three errors in the first game were followed by Villar's errant throw in the first inning of Game 2, but Andrew Cashner retired Yonder Alonso on a deep fly ball to left-center field and was back in the dugout.

Update: The White Sox tied the game in the second on Adam Engel's infield hit after Austin Wynn's throwing error on a strikeout that should have ended the inning.

Update II: Jose Abreu's 432-foot home run in the third broke the tie.

Update III: Stevie Wilkerson's three-run homer in the fourth gave the Orioles a 4-2 lead.

Update IV: The White Sox loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth and three runs scored on Abreu's single into left-center field. Chicago leads 5-4.

Update V: Anthony Santander's 429-foot home run leading off the sixth tied the game.

Update VI: Tim Anderson committed two errors in the seventh and the Orioles grabbed a 6-5 lead.

Update VII: Yonder Alonso's two-run single off Miguel Castro with two outs in the ninth inning gave Chicago a 7-6 win and a split of the doubleheader.
