Fans can participate in annual Trick-or-Trot 5K on Oct. 29

Break out those costumes, Orioles fans. And be sure to remember your running shoes, too.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Baltimore Orioles, including manager Buck Showalter and wife Angela, and OriolesREACH are teaming up with KidsPeace to host a Halloween-themed race at the Trick-or-Trot 5K/1-Mile Walk, which starts and ends at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

TrickorTrot.pngNow in its seventh year, the Trick-or-Trot benefits children in foster care and gives those in Birdland a chance to dress up in their favorite costume and run (or walk) for a great cause. The 5K race begins at 8 a.m. and the 1-mile walk begins at 8:05 a.m.

For some, the idea of running more than three miles in a single stretch may be a scarier thought than any ghost, ghoul or goblin. But for those thinking of participating, this is easily one of the most well-attended and fun-filled events on the Orioles calendar.

Halloween costumers aren't mandatory, though they certainly are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female finishers, the first masters' finishers and age group winners. There will also be prizes for the best child costume, adult costume, family costume, group costume and the most creative child and adult Orioles costumes (a Manny Machado/Jonathan Schoop duo, perhaps?)

Race participants will also enjoy a pre- and post-race party with face painting, a moon bounce, food and more, all alongside the Showalter family and, of course, the Oriole Bird.

"With the generous support of the Birdland community, we can make a real difference for children and teenagers in foster care who rely on the life-changing programs offered by KidsPeace," Buck Showalter said. "We look forward to greeting and thanking all of the participants and supporters who make this event better each and every year."

For those interested in running or walking, you can register online here, where the cost is $35 through Oc. 25. Beginning Oct. 27, participants can register at either the KidsPeace office or at Dempsey's Brew Pub & Restaurant in person for $40. Registration and packet pick-up on race day will begin at 6:30 a.m. at Gate A of Camden Yards. The first 900 registered runners/walkers will also receive a race t-shirt (sizes are first come, first served).

All proceeds from the event benefit KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs of Maryland, including KidsPeace Empowering Youth to Succeed (KEYS), a program which prepares youth for independence through life-skills training.
