Flaherty leaves game with injury (O's win 5-2)

Orioles second baseman Ryan Flaherty came out of tonight's game in the top of the third inning after trying to backhand a ground ball up the middle and grimacing in pain.

Flaherty was on the disabled list with a strained right groin muscle. He also felt some discomfort during a game at Yankee Stadium over the weekend.

Flaherty took a few deep breaths and finally gave in, walking slowly to the dugout and ending his night.

Steve Pearce moved from left field to second base and David Lough took over for Pearce. Lough will bat eighth in Flaherty's spot.

Naturally, Devon Travis swung at the next pitch from Ubaldo Jimenez and grounded to Pearce, who started a 4-6-3 double play.

Jimenez has thrown 41 pitches in three scoreless innings.

Rey Navarro is playing second base tonight at Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles optioned him on Friday while activating Flaherty from the disabled list, and they could recall him if another roster move is necessary.

Everth Cabrera is on the disabled list with a bruised left foot.

Jimmy Paredes extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a bunt single in the third. He's had at least one hit in 17 of 19 games this season.

Update: Jimenez gave up back-to-back doubles to Kevin Pillar and Ezequiel Carrera in the fifth to reduce the lead to 3-1. Jimenez has allowed one run and four hits in five innings, with one walk and seven strikeouts. He's thrown 71 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Jimmy Paredes is 2-for-3.

Update II: The Orioles loaded the bases in the sixth and Chris Davis scored on Caleb Joseph's sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 4-1.

Jimenez has struck out a season-high nine batters in six innings.

Update III: The Blue Jays scored with two outs in the seventh on Carrera's RBI double, but Adam Jones homered in the bottom half to give the Orioles a 5-2 lead.

Jimenez allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, with two walks and nine strikeouts. He threw 109 pitches, 71 for strikes. and lowered his ERA to 2.41 in 33 2/3 innings.

The Orioles are 14-16 and again avoid falling a season-high four games below .500.
