The Orioles and Marlins have gone back into a holding pattern.
Four postponements between the clubs due to an outbreak of COVID-19 among the Marlins has delayed the two series to this week at Camden Yards, with the Orioles serving as hosts for half. Tonight's game is supposed to begin at 7:35 p.m., but it's in jeopardy.
The tarp remains on the field, the players' lot is practically empty and umpires have been turned away from the ballpark.
Media wasn't granted access until 4 p.m., which is 30 minutes past the allotted time. A line formed outside the security area under orders from ballpark operations.
The lineups haven't been announced and manager Brandon Hyde's daily Zoom conference call is pushed back without an explanation from the club.
Major League Baseball issued the following statement this afternoon:
"The start of tonight's game between the host Baltimore Orioles and the Miami Marlins at Camden Yards may be delayed as we await the final test results clearing the Marlins to resume play. MLB is in communication with both Clubs and expects resolution within the next several hours."
Tests on Marlins players came back negative again yesterday, according to reports, and they were cleared to enter Baltimore. However, a situation has developed today.
MLB finally came up with a schedule this week that includes 7:35 p.m. games tonight and Thursday and a Wednesday doubleheader beginning at 5:05 p.m.
The Marlins haven't played since July 26. They've been piecing together their roster via waiver claims and trades after a bus transported the quarantined group from Philadelphia to Miami.
The rain has stopped, with Hurricane Isaias unable to impact the status of tonight's game.
Something else might do it.
Updated: The game will be played tonight and should start at the designated time, according to reports.
Tests on some Marlins players came back inconclusive. They were retested and passed, and should be heading to the ballpark shortly.
The Orioles were sent home and now can return.
