Game update and notes on Norris and Yoon (Jones homers, Tillman done)

Chris Tillman gave up three singles in the top of the first inning tonight, the last by Alex Rios that scored Shin-Soo Choo and gave Texas a 1-0 lead at steamy Camden Yards. It's 87 degrees here, but it's a wet heat. None of the balls were hit particularly hard, but they counted just the same. Tillman has allowed 16 runs in the first inning this season. He retired the Rangers in order in the second to leave his pitch count at 25. Making his first major league start, Miles Mikolas retired the Orioles in order in the first inning. They had hit two home runs in the first in each of the last two games. Nelson Cruz nearly tied the score in the second, but Rangers center fielder Leonys Martin reached over the fence in front of the Orioles bullpen to take away a home run. Cruz needs one more for his 27th, which would match his 2013 total. Bud Norris will perform pitchers fielding practice Thursday and throw a bullpen session the following day in Boston. He's eligible to come off the disabled list July 7, but manager Buck Showalter wants him to pitch in a rehab or simulated game before starting for the Orioles. Suk-min Yoon received a cortisone injection in his right shoulder today from Orioles orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs and will be shut down for the next few days. Yoon is on the Triple-A disabled list with an impingement in his shoulder, and the injection should reduce the inflammation. Update: Tillman has allowed four runs and I'm not sure a single ball has been hit hard. Tillman allowed three runs (two earned) in the third inning after Caleb Joseph was called for catcher's interference as Elvis Andrus swung late on a hit-and-run, the ball tailing toward his face. Joseph argued. Showalter argued for a long time, his face turning red. But the umpires didn't change the call after conferring. Adrian Beltre had a two-run double and Martin drove in a run on an infield hit, the ball deflecting off Tillman's right leg. Catcher's interference calls can't be reviewed. That rule should change in 2015. Update II: Adam Jones hit his 16th home run of the season, a solo shot with the count full in the fourth inning to reduce the Rangers' lead to 4-1. Tillman has thrown 91 pitches in five innings. Update III: Tillman is charged with three earned runs (four total) and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings, with four walks (one intentional) and two strikeouts. He threw 111 pitches, 60 for strikes. Tillman's streak of quality starts ends at four. Brad Brach inherited a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the sixth and retired Carlos Pena on a bouncer to first.
