Good news on Davis MRI and wrapping up a 4-2 win

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The MRI on Chris Davis' right elbow/forearm today didn't reveal any structural damage, according to manager Buck Showalter, and the first baseman is projected to be out only three to five days.

Concerns about Davis were raised throughout the organization when the discomfort increased and it appeared that the issue may not have been muscular.

"Anytime you've got something that's not healing and what they think, you worry about if there's something structurally in there, but it seems to be OK," Showalter said.

Kevin Gausman retired all nine batters he faced today and the Orioles beat the Phillies 4-2 for their third win in a row. They improved to 4-5-1.

Lucas Long retired the side in order on three ground balls to record the save.

Gausman struck out five in his return from Monday's collision behind home plate.

"Gausman was good. Real good to see," Showalter said. "We'll have him run into the on-deck hitter next outing. Or every outing."

Gausman is focused on repeating his delivery, hitting the same landing spot.

"He doesn't seem to be as worried about velocity and overpowering people and stuff," Showalter said. "You can tell he's really ... He has a pretty good feel for where he got in trouble last year commanding his fastball. I know that's been an area of focus."

Left-hander Josh Edgin retired the side in order in the fourth after replacing Gausman. He hasn't allowed a run or hit in three innings this spring.

"Edgin's been impressive. It looks like he knows what he's doing," Showalter said.

Former Orioles infielder Ryan Flaherty broke up the combined no-hitter with a one-out single in the eighth off Jimmy Yacabonis, who surrendered two runs.

Anthony Santander hit a two-run homer off left-hander Fernando Abad in the top of the eighth inning that easily cleared the fence in left field.

"I'll tell you, he turned the wind around," Showalter said. "That's into the wind. That ball usually doesn't get out."

Santander also made a nice grab in right field.

"He's really worked on everything about his game," Showalter said. "I know Brady (Anderson) spent some time with him, too. He's a guy who works real hard at his agility and speed. He's really been trying to streamline himself a little bit. He weighs just a little bit less, but they really worked on his flexibility and being able to run better."

Cedric Mullins scored from first base on Chance Sisco's double to left field in the second inning, his speed and instincts on full display.

"He might be the only guy who scores on that ball easily like that and nobody really notices it," Showalter said. "When you look at a player, those are the things you look for. That's a feel, that's a baseball player. You can't analyze it.

"He knows that ball is slicing and he's got a feel for it. He knows where the left fielder is playing. A lot of guys are afraid to make a mistake. Those are the things that catch my eye that he does."
