Gregg released, Adams outrighted

The Orioles announced today that they released veteran reliever Kevin Gregg and outrighted minor league second baseman Ryan Adams to Triple-A Norfolk after he cleared waivers. No surprises here. Gregg is hoping to catch on with another team and the Orioles couldn't come up with a trade partner over the winter or during the season. He figured to be cut loose after they designated him for assignment Tuesday. Gregg went 3-2 with a 4.74 ERA in 40 appearances for the Orioles this season. He allowed six runs (seven earned) in his last five games over 4 1/3 innings. The Orioles will absorb the remainder of the $5.8 million on Gregg's contract for this season. They held a $6 million option for 2013. Adams, a second-round pick in 2006, batted .224/.312/.353 with four homers and 20 RBIs in 65 games with the Tides this season. The Orioles designated both players Tuesday to create room for outfielders Endy Chavez and LJ Hoes on the 40-man roster.
