Guthrie through the third (updated)

Jeremy Guthrie has made one mistake tonight, and he's trailing, 1-0, because of it. Jim Thome homered to center field with one out in the second inning, upping his career total to 591. Thome was batting .163 with one homer, five RBIs and a .279 slugging percentage. Guthrie also allowed a two-out single to Denard Span in the third. He's thrown 38 pitches, 26 for strikes, and his fastball has topped out at 94 mph. Twins starter Scott Baker, looking for his first victory of 2011, retired the first eight Orioles before Robert Andino's two-out single in the third. Brian Roberts followed with another single. Down on the farm, Double-A Bowie's Robbie Widlansky is 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. The Baysox lead Erie, 4-1, in the third. Joe Mahoney remains on the disabled list with a quad injury. Update: We'll keep an eye on Brian Roberts, who was grimacing and limping slightly after taking Mark Reynolds' throw at second base and having Minnesota's Jason Kubel slide into his left ankle as Roberts' turned the double play. Reynolds' throw was a bit wide, forcing Roberts to come across the front of the bag.
