Hammel trying to feel at home

The lineups will be coming to you earlier than normal on a Wednesday, with the Orioles scheduled to play a 12:35 p.m. game against the Angels. Do the Orioles lead the majors in day games? Their body clocks must be out of whack. Jason Hammel is making his sixth start at Camden Yards. He's 1-3 with a 7.33 ERA at home, allowing 22 earned runs in 27 innings. His last start here ended with an ejection after back-to-back-to-back home runs by the Tigers. He's not looking to relive that memory. Hammel is 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA in five career games against the Angels, including four starts. His lone win came on May 5, when he allowed four earned runs in six innings. Howie Kendrick is 6-for-10 with four RBIs against Hammel. Mike Trout is 4-for-10 with a home run. Jerome Williams is 3-1 with a 4.26 ERA in four starts against the Orioles, with eight walks and 22 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings. On May 5, he allowed five runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings, with three walks and six strikeouts in an 8-4 loss. J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado homered off him. Nick Markakis is 4-for-8 against Williams. He won't bat leadoff today against a right-hander, but he's hitting .324 (23-for-71) with five doubles and 14 RBIs in 16 games atop the order. Jim Johnson recorded his 23rd save last night, tying him with Mariano Rivera and Jason Grilli for the major league lead. The Orioles are 11-5 against the American League West and 2-0 against the division at home, both wins coming against the Angels, of course. Since July 29, 2012, the Orioles have the best winning percentage in the majors at .619. The Orioles are 10-8 in one-run games and 17-12 in games decided by two runs or fewer. They're 25-9 when they outhit their opponents and 29-19 when they don't commit an error.
