Harrisburg places Matt Skole on disabled list with wrist injury (updated)

Double-A Harrisburg Senators first baseman Matt Skole has been placed on the disabled list with hairline fracture in his left wrist, according to a team source. Skole is expected to miss three to four weeks. Skole was injured Friday night when his arm was hit by a runner on a play up the baseline. Justin Bloxom is a good possibility to be moved to first base while Skole recovers. The team announced that outfielder Jerad Head had been called up from extended spring training. The Nationals' minor league Player of the Year in 2012, Skole appeared in two games to begin the season, going 1-for-5 with a double, a run scored, two walks and two strikeouts. Skole had his best season in 2012, smacking 27 homers and 104 RBIs in 119 games between low Single-A Hagerstown and high Single-A Potomac. The talented prospect out of Georgia Tech played first base exclusively in the Arizona Fall League after spending last season at third. Similar to Tyler Moore, the Nationals are also high on Skole. They love to give their top prospects experience at multiple positions to improve their versatility and add avenues to the big leagues. Head appeared in 10 games for the Indians in 2011. The 30-year old played for the Tigers' Triple-A Toledo affiliate last season. The Nationals signed him to a minor league deal in January. Update: Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Tuesday that Skole is getting a second opinion on his injured left wrist and no timetable has been set for how long he will be on the disabled list.
