Hunter and Davis is a pretty good return for Uehara

Acquiring a young pitcher and a young first baseman that have already had some major league success for Koji Uehara looks like possibly a great trade at this point for the Orioles. The O's acquired pitcher Tommy Hunter and Chris Davis for Uehara, who heads to the Rangers. The sides have reached an agreement on the deal, first reported by The Baltimore Sun, but it has not yet officially been announced. I'm looking for the downside and having a hard time finding any right now, but this news is still fresh of course. The 25-year-old Davis, a lefty hitter, was batting .250 with three homers and six RBIs for Texas in 28 games and 76 at-bats this year. His numbers this year at Round Rock in the hitter-happy Pacific Coast League were pretty amazing. Over 48 games, he was batting .368 with 14 doubles, 24 homers and a 1.229 OPS. Davis burst onto the scene with Texas as a rookie in 2008, batting .285 with 17 homers and 55 RBIs over 80 games. The next season he hit .238 with 21 homers and 59 RBIs over 113 games. He hit just .192 in the majors last year, spending most of the time at Triple-A. In 265 major league games since 2008, with 878 at-bats, Davis has a career average of .248 with 42 homers, 124 RBIs, a .454 slugging percentage and .755 OPS. He has struck out a lot, 301 times, to 64 walks. Tommy Hunter is a 25-year-old right-hander that is 1-1 2.93 ERA in eight games this year out of the Texas bullpen. He started the year injured with a groin strain and pitched at Triple-A from May 9 to June 30, going 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA. Last year, Hunter went 13-4 with a 3.73 ERA in 23 games, 22 starts for Texas over 128 innings. Hunter was the Rangers' supplemental first-round pick in 2007, the 54th overall pick. In his major league career, he is 23-13 with an ERA of 4.36 in 53 games, 44 starts and 266 innings. Another benefit to this deal is the Orioles are getting two players that are under team control for several more seasons. Davis is not even arbitration eligible for the first time until after 2012 and cannot be a free agent until after the 2015 season. Hunter will be first-time arbitration eligible after 2013 and can be a free agent after the 2016 year according to baseball-reference.com Koji was having a great year for the Orioles and I wish him well with Texas, but the O's got possibly a piece of their future rotation and a young first baseman back.
