BOSTON - With a win tonight, the Orioles would move eight games above .500 for the first time since July 18, 2005, when they were 50-42 under Lee Mazzilli. Despite winning four of the last five games against Boston and six of the last nine, the Orioles lost the season series, 8-10. They were 5-4 in Baltimore and 3-6 in Boston. The Orioles are 11-13 against the Red Sox (6-6 in Baltimore and 5-7 at Fenway Park) since Buck Showalter was hired in Aug. 2010. Since Sept, 12, 2011, the Orioles have gone 10-2-1 in 13 series and are 27-15 in their last 42 games with a 3.88 ERA. Orioles starters are 3-1 with a 1.57 ERA in the last five games, allowing six earned runs in 34 1/3 innings. All five starters have worked six innings or more and allowed two runs or fewer. The last time they went six straight games and allowed two runs or fewer was Sept. 1-6, 2004. The franchise record is 10 consecutive games Aug. 29-Sept. 7, 1974. The Orioles' 2.83 ERA leads the American League and ranks third in the majors. They've allowed just 13 extra-base hits in the last nine games, including one double and two homers in three games at Yankee Stadium. Matt Wieters' next homer will be the 50th of his career. The Orioles lead the majors in road homers with 20 and are tied for second-most against right-handed pitching with 28, two fewer than the Yankees. Over the last 19 games, the Orioles' bullpen is 5-0 with a 1.19 ERA and eight saves over 53 innings. Wei-Yin Chen has allowed eight runs this season - one in the first, one in the fourth and six in the sixth.
