In the 16th and 17th rounds... (local kid Hader chosen in 19th round)

BOSTON - It's Day 3 of the First-Year Player Drafts, and the picks are coming fast and furious. Teams don't need five minutes between selections. They don't stay on the clock for more than a few seconds. The Orioles used their 16th pick on pitcher Luc Rennie of Torrey Pines (Ca.) High School. Their 17th pick was used on pitcher Nick Grim of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo. That's 12 pitchers chosen in the first 17 rounds. Rennie was 9-1 with a 0.89 ERA, 10 walks and 73 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings. also listed as a catcher/third baseman, Rennie batted .343/.365/.444 with 13 RBIs. He's listed at 6 foot 2, 200 pounds. Grim, a reliever, was 3-2 with a 4.74 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings. He's listed at 6 foot 3, 190 pounds. Here's a look at Grim: In the 18th round, the Orioles selected Stetson catcher Sam Kimmel, who was drafted by the Reds in the 35th round last year. Kimmel, a left-handed hitter, batted .327/.414/.407 with one homer and 26 RBIs in 58 games. In the 19th round, the Orioles took Old Mill High School left-hander Josh Hader. Yes, I'm an Old Mill graduate. I love this pick. Executive vice president Dan Duquette wants to bring more locals into the organization. This is the second Marylander chosen by the Orioles in the first 19 rounds. Hader was 10-0 with a 0.39 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings. He allowed four earned runs and 23 hits and walked 21. Hader also batted .409 with four homers and 27 RBIs.
