Orioles center fielder Adam Jones left tonight's game after the bottom of the sixth inning with a stomach virus, according to the team.
Rule 5 pick Joey Rickard moved to center field and Nolan Reimold was inserted into left.
Jones grounded to short for the second out in the sixth inning. He hit into a double play and singled in two previous at-bats.
The news tonight is good, considering that Jones wasn't in the lineup for six games due to soreness in his rib area. He was used twice as a defensive replacement in Boston before starting on Thursday in Arlington, Texas.
Discomfort in the stomach area is a lot better than the rib area.
Jones is 6-for-27 with a double, home run and five RBIs in eight games.
Mike Wright allowed three runs and six hits in six innings tonight, with three walks and four strikeouts. He was removed after 105 pitches.
Tyler Wilson worked the seventh and allowed a two-out RBI double to Jose Bautista after a single and walk, giving the Blue Jays a 4-1 lead.
Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman has retired seven in a row since Matt Wieters' infield hit loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth inning. J.J. Hardy popped up to end the rally.
Down on the farm, left-hander Brian Matusz struck out four batters in his first inning of work with Single-A Frederick. The leadoff hitter reached on a wild pitch.
Matusz went three innings and didn't allow a run or hit. He walked none and struck out seven batters.
Update: Mark Trumbo reached on an infield hit leading off the bottom of the seventh and Wieters followed with his first home run, a liner to right field that reduced the Blue Jays' lead to 4-3. The call stood after a crew chief review.
Update II: Matusz allowed one hit and struck out nine in four scoreless innings at Frederick.
Update III: The Orioles lost for the fourth time in their last five games, falling to the Blue Jays 4-3.
Mychal Givens tossed a scoreless eighth after issuing a walk with one out.
The Orioles (8-4) stranded two runners in the eighth after Manny Machado doubled and Nolan Reimold walked with one out. Chris Davis fouled out to the catcher and Mark Trumbo flied to shallow right-center field.
No longer unbeaten at home, the Orioles are now 5-1 at Camden Yards.
