Adam Jones no longer is listed as the Orioles' center fielder today.
Manager Buck Showalter switched Jones to designated hitter, put David Lough in center and moved Nelson Cruz to left. Jones ran in the outfield earlier to gauge how much he's recovered from his virus.
Jones, of course, wanted to play in center.
"I want him to run around and see if he fatigues or anything," Showalter said earlier today. "He doesn't want to hear it."
Jones wasn't in yesterday's lineup and had been sent home before the postponement.
Showalter is glad that the Orioles and Rays didn't play a doubleheader today. Jones and reliever Evan Meek are here, but not 100 percent. A few other players are showing early symptoms of the virus. He could have been shorthanded on the bench and the bullpen.
The Orioles had their clubhouse disinfected, including the ping pong paddles and pool cues.
"Went through all the shower areas and all the locker areas," Showalter said. "It's a very clean locker room to start with. These guys take a lot of pride it in, but they went back over everything again. Ping pong paddles, pool sticks. Everything's a carrier."
Bud Norris is available in the bullpen. He will start Saturday afternoon in Boston if not used today.
Down on the farm, Kevin Gausman developed a blister on his right middle finger during last night's start for Triple-A Norfolk, but he should be fine for his next start. Gausman allowed four runs and seven hits in three-plus innings.
Here's the new Orioles lineup:
Nick Markakis RF
Nelson Cruz LF
Chris Davis 1B
Adam Jones DH
Matt Wieters C
J.J. Hardy SS
David Lough CF
Steve Lombardozzi 2B
Ryan Flaherty 3B
