Lefty Bronson will go tonight for Harrisburg following rain out

The Washington Nationals have announced that left-hander Evan Bronson has been called up to make his Double-A debut for Harrisburg in tonight's Game Two of a doubleheader at Richmond. The game will be the back end of a pair of seven-inning affairs. Saturday night's Game Two was rained out so Shairon Martis will pitch tonight's first contest, followed by Bronson's debut. Bronson has worked between a starting role and the bullpen all season for Single-A Potomac. He has seven starts this season, his most recent outing was 4 1/3 innings against Kinston on July 16, where he scattered six hits, allowed two runs, one home run, but no walks and three strikeouts. "Bronson throws strikes and mixes his pitches well," Potomac pitching coach Paul Menhart said. "His changeup keeps hitters off balance and Bronson relies on defense to get him through." Menhart said that the key for Bronson to have success is to get groundballs and let the guys behind him move him through innings. Bronson pitches to contact and is not known as a strikeout guy, said P-Nats play-by-play announcer Will Flemming. "(But) he never walks anyone and is not afraid to pitch inside." The 6-foot-3, 195 lb., southpaw, who hails from Midlothian, Va., and attended Trinity College, has gone 2-3 with a 3.79 ERA in 16 games this season for the P-Nats. Right-hander Erik Davis gets sent to Potomac to complete the transaction. Davis has lost three starts in a row and has allowed 15 earned runs in those three outings. He is 5-5 with a 4.66 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season in 16 starts. This will be an opportunity for Menhart to get a chance to work with Davis and get him back on track. Davis does have 18 strikeouts in those three games, including 10 punch outs July 9 at Richmond.
