Machado has four hits, Bundy gets first win as losing streak ends

Three runs on two swings and a highlight-reel double play. After the Orioles' offensive struggles in Houston, the offense broke out tonight and two big hits in the seventh inning helped lead the way. Their middle infield on defense came up big, too.

Tied 3-3 in the seventh, Chris Davis' RBI double off reliever Zach McAllister gave the Orioles a 4-3 lead. On the next pitch, Mark Trumbo hit a two-run homer to right as the Orioles beat Cleveland 6-4 tonight at Progressive Field.

The Orioles ended a four-game losing streak and improved to 27-19 for the season and 10-11 on the road. They had scored three runs or less five straight games, scoring 12 runs total in that span.

Right-hander Dylan Bundy, who pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, got his first major league win. He came on in the fifth and stranded two runners in scoring position.

The Indians went on to load the bases with one out before Jonathan Schoop and Manny Machado turned a nifty double play. Schoop fielded a hot smash to his left at second and threw to Machado, who gunned the relay to first to get Chris Gimenez.

O's starter Mike Wright was staked to a 3-0 lead in the first, but allowed single runs in the second, fourth and fifth as Cleveland tied the game. Wright went just 4 2/3 inning, allowing six hits and three runs.

After scoring just seven runs in three games in Houston, the Orioles started fast tonight. Batting leadoff for the first time since May 10, 2010, Adam Jones singled to start the game and Hyun Soo Kim was hit by a pitch. Machado started what would be a big night at the plate with an RBI single. Davis walked to load the bases, but then Trumbo and Nolan Reimold stuck out. In danger of seeing his team blow a big early chance, Schoop came up with a big two-run single to center and it was 3-0. Schoop has 16 RBIs his past 14 games.

The Orioles are now 6-1 on Fridays, 12-5 versus the American League Central and 3-4 on this road trip. They improved to 21-4 when they score four or more runs.

In that leadoff spot, Jones went 3-for-5 after going 3-for-37 his previous nine games. Machado went 4-for-5 with two doubles and is batting .323. The Orioles went 4-for-28 with runners in scoring position in Houston, but went 4-for-9 with RISP tonight.

In the second game of this series on Saturday at 4:10 p.m., Ubaldo Jimenez (2-5, 6.04 ERA) pitches against right-hander Danny Salazar (4-3, 2.32 ERA).
