Marcum in control as Jays win to complete three-game sweep

In addition to giving up a lot of homers this year to Toronto batters, the Orioles have struggled at times to hit Blue Jays pitchers. That was the case again today as Shaun Marcum gave up just one run over seven innings as Toronto beat the O's 5-2 to sweep the three-game series. The Orioles went 0-9 on the year at Toronto and they were out-scored 54-20 in those games. Blue Jays pitchers had an ERA of 2.48 in the season series vs. the O's. The Orioles have lost 14 in a row and 23 of their past 25 games at Rogers Centre. The O's have their first four-game losing streak since Buck Showalter took over as manager. Marcum gave up four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. He improves to 13-8, 3.63. In four starts this year vs. the O's, he is 3-0, 1.13 giving up just 3 ER over 24 innings. Rick VandenHurk took the loss in his first start with the Orioles. He gave up three runs and four hits over four innings, throwing 87 pitches. He is 0-1, 4.96. He walked two and hit one batter and all three scored. Alfredo Simon and Showalter were ejected in the fifth after Simon hit Jose Bautista. It was the second time Bautista was hit and earlier the benches had been warned after the O's Luke Scott had been hit by a pitch. Adam Jones had three hits and an RBI and Matt Wieters added a sac fly for the Birds, who are now 2-4 on a nine-game road trip that now heads for Tampa. The O's went 3-15 on the season vs. Toronto, their fewest wins since going 1-11 vs. the Jays in 1999. Tomorrow night vs. the Rays, it's Brian Matusz (8-12, 4.59) vs. Wade Davis (12-9, 4.13). Matusz is 5-1, 2.57 over his last nine starts.
