MASNsports.com's very own Steve Melewski was kind enough to join Paul Mancano and myself for this week's Orioles episode of the "MASN All Access" podcast.
After a five-game losing streak that included a sweep at the hands of the Astros in Houston, the Orioles started the season 1-5 and looked at a daunting four-game series against the Yankees in New York. While some fans may have already been crying for mercy to start the season, wouldn't you know it, the Orioles went out and won three of four against the Bronx Bombers.
And they did it with some great play by a few "unsung" heroes along the way. Sure, Manny Machado hit his first two home runs of the season and made some stellar defensive plays, and Andrew Cashner threw six innings of one-run ball against a formidable lineup on his way to his first win in an Orioles uniform. But the Birds don't come out of New York with three victories without great performances from the likes of Richard Bleier, Brad Brach, Caleb Joseph, Graig Gentry, and Rule 5 picks Anthony Santander and Pedro Araujo.
Steve helps us go through all of the highlights from this past weekend and break down each major performance from Bleier's 5 1/3 scoreless innings to Brach's no-out, bases-loaded escape act.
We also look ahead to when we could possibly see Alex Cobb's Orioles debut and what the future holds for Mike Wright Jr. once he is bumped from the starting rotation. Then Steve gives us a breakdown of what we are seeing from Trey Mancini and not seeing from Chris Davis in the leadoff spot.
Plus, it wouldn't be a visit from Steve without touching on a few minor league topics. He gives us updates on Hunter Harvey, Austin Hays and DJ Stewart as he takes us through the entire O's farm system.
