McCann goes on IL, today's lineups (Henderson scratched)

The Orioles have lost four of their last seven series and will try today to avoid their first three-game sweep since May 13-15, 2022 in Detroit.

Catcher James McCann went on the 10-day injured list this morning with a sprained left ankle, and the Orioles selected catcher José Godoy’s contract from Triple-A Norfolk. Godoy was on the taxi squad in Chicago.

Reliever Reed Garrett was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

McCann is batting .194/.232/.344 with five doubles and three home runs in 31 games.

Godoy, who’s wearing No. 77, was acquired from the Yankees on June 2 in a cash transaction. He’s appeared in 26 major league games over the past two seasons with the Mariners, Twins and Pirates and gone 7-for-57.

Godoy, 28, was 6-for-21 with a home run for Norfolk.

Adley Rutschman is catching today, batting behind leadoff hitter Gunnar Henderson. Ryan O’Hearn is in right field and batting fourth, and Ramón Urías gets another start at first base.

Anthony Santander is the designated hitter.

Dean Kremer has won seven games and posted a 4.74 ERA and 1.434 WHIP in 14 starts. His 90 hits allowed were tied yesterday for most in the American League.

Kremer has allowed three runs or fewer in seven of his last eight starts. He’s never faced the Cubs.

Every team in the American League East lost yesterday, or didn’t play due to a rainout, leaving the Orioles six games behind first-place Tampa Bay and four ahead of the third-place Yankees.

Jameson Taillon has struggled in his first season with the Cubs, posting a 6.70 ERA and 1.510 WHIP in 11 starts and 48 1/3 innings. He went on the 15-day injured list in April with a groin strain.

Taillon’s only quality start came in his last outing, when he held the Pirates to three runs in six innings. He’s registered a 4.18 ERA and 1.214 WHIP in six career starts against the Orioles totaling 28 innings.

Austin Hays is 6-for-12 with two doubles lifetime against Taillon. Urías is 3-for-9 with a home run.
