Minor league notes on Adams, Hudson, Rowell and more

Outfielder Kyle Hudson, the Orioles' fourth-round draft pick in 2008 out of the University of Illinois, is on quite a hitting roll right now at Triple-A Norfolk. After going 3-for-4 last night, the 24-year-old Hudson is batting .372 (35-for-94) with 13 multi-hit games over his last 22 contests since he returned to the Tides from Double-A Bowie on July 17. In those 22 games, Hudson has scored 17 runs and stolen 12 bases. He has played at three levels this year, logging time with Norfolk, Bowie and Single-A Frederick. Ryan Adams went 0-for-4 on Tuesday and saw his 14-game hitting streak at Norfolk come to an end. It tied Brandon Snyder for longest streak on the team in 2011. Adams hit .355 (22-for-62) during that stretch with seven doubles, a triple, five homers and 12 RBIs. He is batting .326 over his last 21 games. Orioles eighth-round draft pick, outfielder Johnny Ruettiger, who recently signed, is still likely several days away from being assigned to an affiliate roster. Ruettiger had not played since Arizona State lost in the NCAA Super Regionals in June and is currently training in Sarasota. In 60 games in college this year, he hit .327 with no homers and 37 RBIs and was first team All-Pac-10. Ruettiger, who was drafted in round 35 out of high school by Texas in 2008, was a career .341 hitter in three seasons at Arizona State. Brandon Waring hit his 15th homer for Bowie last night. It was his 38th career Baysox homer, which ranks second on the all-time list. Keith Reed hit 42 for Bowie. Aberdeen's season-best five-game win streak ended last night with a 5-2 loss at State College. Frederick lost 6-5 at Myrtle Beach and has dropped six of its last seven games. Aberdeen's Glynn Davis stole his 20th base last night and that leads the New York-Penn League. Connor Narron is struggling in August, going just 1-for-24, and is batting .194 on the year. He does lead the league with 38 walks. Billy Rowell remains officially on the Double-A Bowie disabled list with an ankle injury. Unofficially, he is in limbo right now. He was batting .227 in 41 games and 119 at bats with Bowie, but hasn't played there since June 21. Rowell played in 17 Gulf Coast League games on an injury-rehab assignment, batting .273. It's believed that assignment is now over and he hasn't played there since July 30. For now, we hear Rowell is still in Sarasota working out daily, but not playing for any affiliate at the moment. The Orioles do not seem in any hurry to get him back on Bowie's active roster.
