Mirowski adds third pitch, now preps for Arizona Fall League

One of the under-the-radar hurlers that is making a nice move within the Nationals organization is right-handed reliever Richie Mirowski. Along with Aaron Barrett and Robert Benincasa, Mirowski is one to watch for in 2014. Mirowski went 8-3 with a 1.50 ERA in 32 games for high Single-A Potomac. In 48 innings, Mirowski had 59 strikeouts and 11 walks, yielding an amazing .180 batting average against. Potomac manager Brian Daubach said Mirowski added a third pitch that became one of his biggest assets. It helped to baffle hitters and led to the big strikeout total. "He has really developed a split-change that has turned into a swing-and-miss pitch for him," Daubach said. "He had a pretty good breaking ball in the past and he could locate his fastball. He is not overpowering, but adding that third pitch was a big help for him. He had a big season for us. I know that continued up in Harrisburg, as well." Following his promotion to Double-A Harrisburg, Mirowski went 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA in 13 games. Over 20 2/3 innings, Mirowski struck out 29 and walked four. He allowed hitters only a .197 batting average in those 13 outings. Mirowski is in Arizona this week and is preparing to make his debut in the Arizona Fall League with the Mesa Solar Sox. Their season begins next week.
