Missed opportunity in the fifth (not in sixth)

The Orioles had a chance to pull within one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but they left runners on second and third. Third base coach John Russell held Cesar Izturis on Brian Roberts' one-out double into the right-field corner. Russell was more than halfway down the line before raising his arms and bringing Izturis to a halt. Fans booed the decision - and I thought Russell should have sent him - but replays showed that Izturis didn't run full speed until he rounded second base. It looked like he wasn't sure whether the ball would be caught - or he lost track of it - but right fielder Brennan Boesch had no play. He raced to the corner to play the carom. Derrek Lee came within inches of a two-run double down the right-field line. He ran the count full and struck out to end the rally and bail out Tigers starter Brad Penny. Lee flung his helmet to the ground in frustration. I almost spiked my pen when Izturis didn't make it past third base. Update: Adam Jones tied the game with a two-run homer in the sixth, and it was one of the loudest I've heard. My ears are still ringing. Luke Scott doubled with one out. While we were debating whether Felix Pie should pinch-run, Jones crushed Brad Penny's final pitch of the night. The ball easily cleared the seats in left, and I thought it traveled farther than the estimated 370 feet. It definitely got out of here in a hurry. Jones showed some impressive bat speed to drive a ball that was tailing inside. Tonight's attendance: 11,648
